The Foundation seeks immediate assistance in funding for the following projects:

1. The National Library of Vietnam. On April 11, 2007, the Foundation signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the National Library of Vietnam in Hanoi to create a digital library of the National Library's 4000-item cultural heritage of books, woodblocks, manuscripts, maps, and other materials on paper. For the first time, anyone with a computer, anywhere in the world, will be able to access this collection...with a click of the mouse. For further information, or to offer help with the fundraising for this vast project, please contact us at the address above. The budgeted cost of the poject over three years is $152,760.

2. IRG/ISO representation of Nom as a world script. The Foundation supports Nom presentations at the annual meetings of the IRG, the international body responsible for world scripts and their display on the internet. Our participation in the IRG technical meetings is essential to maintaining Nom as an internationally recognized writing system. $4000/year.

2. Nôm Scholarships in Vietnam, both for American Ph.D. candidates including Nôm in their dissertation work and for high school and college students in Vietnam who wish to learn Nôm. $6,000/year..

3. International Conferences on Nôm: We plan to hold conferences every two to three years, bringing scholars from all over the world and from all over Vietnam to centers in Hanoi, Hue, and Ho Chi Minh City. Each conference costs about $40,000, including site rentals, hosting, technical support, publication of proceedings, and travel expenses.

4. Our Nôm Na office. We have created an office in Hanoi and have employed five university graduates who have Nôm and computer skills. While all Foundation officers and board members are unpaid, our Hanoi staff is paid. Their salaries are a major annual expense, but also an investment in the future, as a new generation of Nôm IT experts is being created for a multiplicity of Nôm projects. $15,000/year.

5. Publication of old Nôm texts. We are committed to the printing of ancient Nôm dictionaries and texts. For example, in cooperation with the Trung Tâm Nghiên Cứu Quốc Học, The National Culture Studies Institute in Ho Chi Minh City, we helped in the publication of the first Western attempt to create a Nôm dictionary, the so-called Taberd dictionary of 1838. $8000/year..

COMPLETED PROJECTS:

The creation of the first Nôm dictionary printed in true type. Over the past 6 years the foundation has successfully created the first Nôm Dictionary printed in true type. Over 10,000 characters were in the ISO Standard. The characters from our dictionary are accessible to scholars and librarians worldwide as well as to ordinary Vietnamese wanting to know more about their cultural heritage through our website. Through the generous donations from This is a $45,690 project.

In cooperation with the Trung Tâm Nghiên Cứu Quốc Học (Center for Vietnamese National Studies), we are offering sale of the Dictionarium Anamitico-Latinum Nam Việt-Dương Hiệp Tự vị, ed. by A J. L. Taberd, first published in Bengal, India, 1838. An Nam Đại quốc Hoạ đồ (Tabula geographica imperii Anamitici), 26 x 48.5 cm 1838.
